Review - sharing some amusing thoughts over a book...

Recently happened to lay hands on a book by Bill Bryson, and felt those were the observations akin to any foreigner visiting , rather re- and re-visiting Britain after a not very distant past.
The book titled ' Notes from a SMALL ISLAND, begins with a funny-looking note just below the 'copy-right'--" conditions for sale "------ This book book is sold subject to the condition that it shall not, by way of trade or otherwise, be lent, re-sold, hired out or otherwise circulated in any form of binding or cover other than that in which it is published and without a similar condition including this condition being imposed on the subsequent purchaser !!!

That explained the dilapidated condition of the book freshly borrowed from an esteemed library !

( By the way, remembered another catchy phrase written on my Professor's books--' don't lend your books to others, My liabrary consists of books Borrowed from Others !! )

Back to Mr.Bryson, a book, shall I call it satire, humour, nostalgia, traveller's nightmares, reminiscences, self-evaluation, pointed referances or just casual observations ? Or a combination of all these into one ?
Would like to see your comments , if you happened to have gone through the same book, or intend to.

Bye,

education in human values

SRI SATHYA SAI EDUCATION IN HUMAN VALUES PROGRAMME

Sri Sathya SAI Education In Human Values is a teaching methodology to help children understand the importance of Human values in Living. The programme's logo is the 'Tree of Life ', WHICH BEARS FIVE FRUITS, USED TO SYMBOLISE THE FIVE CORE HUMAN VALUES OF love, truth, peace, right conduct and non-violance. This is a universal teaching programme for children of all cultures and faiths, creating a better Society for today and future generations. iT'S A MULTI-CULTURAL, MULTI-FAITH, SELF DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD.It helps children to explore concepts of right and wrong through th use of story-telling, role play, songs, plays and drama. It is a simple educational tool designed to help develop Positive Values in the young, so that children and young adults become fit for Life, rather than just fit for ensuring a 'good' living. SSEHV is part of the process of EDUCARE.

Why Human Values programme ?
-- To stem the disintegration reflected in increasing crime, bullying, drug abuse, theft, vandalism anti-social behaviour.

The programme also adresses the criteria of a program of study for Educating for Citizenship.

The programme is rapidly spreading in popularity and has been developed and culturally adapted for use in numerous countries, across the Continants, around the world. Schools in over 170 countries now use the SSEHV programme and it has received a favourable response from the UNESCO , who have given the program a recognition, and wished it success in furthering the cause for world peace through education.

The SSEHV program seeks to help Teachers, Parents and Children to RE-FOCUS on the basic positive values that underline all aspects of a Moral Society.

The program is designed to help young people to be in touch with their own feelings and nurture awareness of the qualities within themselves which form good Character and Behaviour.

It gives a unique vision and Holistic Personality Development as well as its Spiritual leanings.

It underlines the motto ---
" EDUCATION IS FOR LIFE AND NOT FOR A MERE LIVING "

An illustration might help in highlighting the importance of Values imbibed properly--

You are a teacher and you had a student in your class who was essentially dim-witted, lazy , and did not pay attention to his lessons. Imagine, you go to him and ask him to concentrate and study harder, and he were to reply, "Sir, it is much more to life than studies"--- that would be one kind of answer. Imagine now, that in the same class you had another student , who was the exact opposite,- extremely intelligent, conscientious and hard working; Someone who regularly secured the highest grades, and recently even received a Gold medal for his acdemic brilliance. You go upto this student to congratulate him for his feat, and you get a reply like- "Thank you Sir, but you know,'there is much more to life than studies'....

In this example, both students provided to you exactly the same answer, but which of these students would you respect more ??

EHV brings out the best in the students, and therefore make them not only academically perfect, but makes them Complete Human Beings, worth respect and adoration

Fendro's musings...

Fendro's musings...And the experience while " quad-bykeing was thrilling and exciting. It's a four wheeled mini mini tractor-like bike, very rugged and to be run on uneven, muddy roadways. Enjoyed that too heartily, forgetting the fact that sixty five years age is none too old !

swansea 2006

Sairam,
Had been to Swansea, the south-west end of England and Wales. It was quite an enjoyable trip, accompanied by a young and enthusiastic group. Had two seven seater cars . Thoroughly enjoyed driving on the sleek motorways.
The resort that was booked was in itself fantastic Made of wooden blocks , the interior was filled with all modern amenities.Situated in a deep valley , a gurgling brook was flowing just six feet away ! It made a dream come true, indeed, for I often used to mull over such a situation in my fantacy right from my childhood days !! Yes, I was and am still a prolific Dreamer ! And strangely, most of my dreams are getting realised during this very sojourn !
While in India, long long ago, I had lost all hopes of meeting again my friends after leaving college. Suddenly, one fine morning I get a communication, inviting me along with my family to join a two-day long meet of of sixty-one batch students ! I meet almost all, except two of my close friends. , and again suddenly come across the whereabouts of one of them , and actually meet him, after a gap of almost thiry-five years !! And that makes me feel very strongly now , that my Maker, the unseen Power, is going to bestow upon me, all my unfulfilled, just and moral dreams and wishes.
We had a hilarious two night stay at the resort, and availed of all the amenities at hand. The ' Barbeque' experience was unforgettable, since the very atmosphere it created , was exciting. Everybody was keen to put in his or her skills at showing how they could go back to the stone ages- when man had just started using fire to appease his hunger. ! No, we didn't consume any fish or animals,;potatoes, bhuttas, onions,Simla mirch, Paneer etc. were sufficient material to (burn !!) and Eat !!! Of course, only few got charred, most could be relished.

More of it later.
