Sri Dasbodh (2.6) तमोगुण लक्षण

Sri Dasbodh (2.6) तमोगुण लक्षण

The University Examinations proscribe three categories of students declared as successful, the first second and third. Likewise, Sri Samartha classifies the three traits as Satva, Raja and Tama. A person possessing Satva Guna is indeed truly human. In addition, the one with pure Rajo Guna can also be considered as Satva guni. The person having mixed Rajo Guna is fully engrossed in worldly matters ; even though he has no inclination unto spirituality, he leads his life enjoying all worldly pleasures. He indulges in good food, drink, sensuality, sports, dramatics, music and dance and even addictions. He enjoys being so and is overtly sensuous.
One possessing Tamo Guna nurtures all characteristics of mixed Rajo Guna ; in addition, he has individualism, hedonism and extremism too. Tamo Guna harbours sensuality like mixed Rajo Guna, but it is overmuch ; there is selfishness that is extreme ; there is attachment, which is extreme ; there is sense of worship, but it is hedonistic and penance too, which is horrible.
Such a person is useless for companionship. One has no option to label him as human.
His rage is extreme ; he is quarrelsome and his eating and drinking is enormous. He has penchant for sensuality, scuffles, extreme maliciousness leading to harming others and is never afraid of sin or sinful pursuits.
He is corrupt, harms people and is cruel.
Overall, he is most unwanted despicable individual .
